100 Years Ago Today 3

25 December 2015

The Christmas edition of Under the Dome, Bethlem Hospital's in-house magazine, reported: “In the present war all our eligible men have either enlisted in the army, or have volunteered to join, as soon as the word of command is given. Our two prisoners of war (Wheeler and Henley) appear to be well, but, probably, hungry. Routledge, the best of my correspondents, is with the Gloucesters in France. I asked Routledge to look round for some trophies for the Hospital. He happened at the time to be in the firing line, and so had to ask a comrade to place them on a transport lorry.”
