Poetry Prescribed: A Landscape of Jealousy
Post Valentine's Day, put pen to paper in this facilitated workshop to be inspired by the chapter about Jealousy in 'The Anatomy of Melancholy' and to craft your own poem.
During the hour long workshop we will look at one or two poems on the subject of jealousy, reading them and watching performances of the pieces. We will then discuss the poetry - exploring the messages within, how it made us feel, how (if at all) it relates to us, and more. Taking inspiration from the conversation we will create our own poetry. There will be four different 'creating poetry' templates - meaning that all, regardless of experience - are able to create something with relative ease.
About the Facilitator
Poetry Prescribed use spoken word poetry as a catalyst for conversation; to inspire thought, change, and creativity. Through poetry we can creatively connect to self, others, and our communities. Their workshops provide a safe space for people to come together and learn about how both spoken word poetry and creative writing can help deal with a wide range of topics. There are many benefits associated with poetry such as the relief of depressive symptoms, improvement of self-esteem and self- understanding, the promotion of empathy and understanding of others, and encouragement to express feelings to name just a few. Poetry Prescribed can offer a voice to those who have previously found it difficult to articulate and/or express what they feel, and welcome everybody regardless of writing experience or ability.
