Bethlem Hospital's 122 patients were taken across London in Hackney carriages from Moorfields to the new Bethlem Hospital site at St George’s Fields south of the River Thames in Southwark. The move took place without any incidents or accidents, and cost the hospital around £18.

The total cost of the new building was £122,572, which was raised by grants from Parliament, public bodies and private individuals.
