Cynthia Pell: A Jewish Expressionist?

In this illustrated talk, Irene Wise discusses the paintings and drawings of Cynthia Pell. She will examine Pell’s Expressionism alongside figurative works by twentieth century European artists, including other Jewish women, exploring what they have in common and what makes Pell unique.

Irene Wise is Senior Lecturer in Media and Culture at the University of Roehampton, and an artist and illustrator whose work has been exhibited /published by institutions including the Ben Uri, the New Grafton Gallery, Medici Society, The Guardian, Penguin Books and Oxford University Press. She is a Fellow of the Imperial War Museum and of the Higher Education Academy.
