A World Apart: the Work of Charles Lutyens
Observations of an art therapist
Charles Lutyens (1933-2021) was both an artist and art therapist, whose professional work took him into a series of institutions, to meet - and help to treat - the people within. He is best known as the creator of the UK’s largest single-artist mosaic (in St Paul’s Church, Bow Common), and a 15 foot crucifix on show in Liverpool Cathedral. This exhibition explores Lutyens' artistic practice, which continued alongside his professional career. As well as documenting aspects of daily life in the institutions he worked in, Lutyens’ art also comprises a poignant record of human emotion and experience.
