Crisis Point: artistic perspectives on mental health and the criminal justice system
Bringing together a group of rarely seen artworks that are usually kept in museum storage, supplemented by a number of works borrowed from private collections, this exhibition explores the intersection between mental illness and the criminal justice system. Each artwork is emblematic of complex lives and experiences that have built to a crisis point. Featuring work by Richard Dadd, Donald Hume, Jonathan Martin, Charles Bronson and Kenneth Ward, the exhibition will also include an installation by artist Kate Iles, based on the extraordinary life of Penelope Carroll - a young woman in the 1940s. More information about Kate's installation can be found here.
The exhibition is accompanied by an audio tour accessible via the free Bloomberg Connects app, created by residents of River House, Bethlem Royal Hospital's medium secure unit.
