Location

Bethlem Museum of the Mind

This exhibition is devoted to the work of artist Charlotte Johnson-Wahl (1942-2021), and specifically the art that she produced whilst a patient at the Maudsley Hospital in 1974. The body of work depicts scenes of hospital life and explores the artist's feelings, her illness and treatment. These Maudsley Hospital works were exhibited precisely 50 years ago, in December 1974. Despite being produced decades ago the paintings' subject matter is still relevant, reflecting on a beautifully visualised experience of mental illness.

Please note the museum is closed over the festive period, with the last open day before Christmas being Saturday 21 December. The museum will re-open on Thursday 2 January 2025.
