The Art and Life of Stanley Lench: Exhibition and Events

We recently blogged about our new exhibitionbition, Cheating Death and Time: the Work of Stanley Lench, which opened this week. This retrospective of Lench's work, supported by an interview with the artist, seeks to examine his art, interests and ideas. The vibrant artworks complement the bright Gallery space, and will offer a rare opportunity to see a large number of items from the Museum's collection of Stanley Lench paintings together.

The exhibition runs until 19 October, taking in World Mental Health Day on 10 October, for which we will be holding two special events. On Saturday 6 October, there will be a free talk in the Museum on the History of Bethlem, looking back at the previous three sites. Bethlem is one of the oldest psychiatric institutions in the world, founded in 1247, but how has it changed over the years? The talk starts at 2pm in the Museum, and will be followed by a chance to look at the British Outsider Art exhibition in the Museum and the Lench exhibition in the Gallery. In addition, we will be holding a talk in the Gallery on World Mental Health Day itself, Wednesday 10 October, exploring the art and life of Stanley Lench, from Cubism and pop art to the Maudsley.

Cheating Death and Time runs from 26 September - 19 October 2012, Wednesday - Friday & Saturday 6 October, 11am - 5pm
