Went to the madhouse at Charenton which is not so well kept as the Salpêtrière. I did not [h]ave a satisfactory [view] of it, but from what I observed I was led to the above opinion. There is a cold bath into which we were told that patients are sometimes thrown by surprise. I saw a long basket in which is a bed - the basket has a cover to fasten the patient into the basket leaving out only his head.
