Location: Schwerin, Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin
Sachsenberg asylum was founded in 1830 for the Archduchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. In its first years, it was run by the eminent medic Karl Friedrich Flemming, and among his successors was the psychiatrist K.F.W. Nasse. In the mid 1870s the asylum established an agricultural colony, and in 1880 it was enlarged and merged with a neighbouring psychiatric institution in Dömitz. At that time its patient population numbered 464.
